Brief

This is where we meet to discuss your project and gain an insight into your requirements and wishes. I will offer you our advice and agree on the aims for the design. I will come to the property and make sure I have got all the dimensions and photos I need to get cracking.

Concept Design

This is the exciting bit. I will be busy creating some concept design ideas based on the brief. Once these are ready (usually about 2 weeks) I will send them to you for us to discuss. I will even give you a 3D model that you can open and fly around on your iPad or computer. I want to make sure you are happy with the concept before going further.

Planning Design

It is crucial to make sure all of the right permissions for the work are in place. I will advise on the best approach, and put together all the drawings and forms needed. At this stage the design will be more detailed and will show the key materials and dimensions for approval. I will submit the application to the Council for you, and keep a close eye on it until the decision is in.

Detail Design

At this stage the design really comes together. My drawings will be more detailed and show construction. I can suggest a great structural engineer, and will apply for Building Regs. It’s not all technical, and I like to chat through the choices of materials with you, right down to the taps. Once this is all agreed I will write a detailed specification for the complex projects although for most situations detailed specification on the drawings will be sufficient.

Construction

It goes without saying that it’s vital to choose the right contractor. I will run the tender process to ensure you compare apples with apples. No lemons. I will put the contract in place, and will carry out regular site inspections. We make sure that the work is done properly, deal with any queries, and issue all certificates. After completion I’ll still be on hand to deal with anything that comes up.

Completion

Time to enjoy, at the end of the day my role will be to make the process as painless as possible.
